Some see it ev- ery day and have for the past 100 years. This year, Mentor Lumber is celebrating 100 years in business, a huge achievement for the small busi- ness acquired by Osborne Companies in 1963. It is one of the few remaining businesses in Men- tor that can celebrate this achievement. Ohio News he Mentor Lumber & Supply Company opened in 1922 under three owners: T. P. Kirby, S.M. Kirby, and John Hillen- brand, with a stock issue of $15,000, and a total of $98,000 in sales its fi rst year. Products included lumber, coal, nails, and other building materials all stored on two acres of land. At that time, a ten-foot two- by-four sold for .29 cents. ver time, the small business grew by employees and acreage. By 1941, four more acres were purchased for expan- sion, and a mill building for sawing and shaping wood products was built.
